The Adagio assai from Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major is one of the most beautifully poignant pieces of music ever written. I wanted to adapt it for solo piano so that I could have it with me whenever I felt the need to express a lonely sentiment or explore the beauty of isolation.
